On November 12th, the new Interlibrary Loans software, "Resource Sharing for Groups" launched across Ontario, enhancing the lending experience for all Library systems across the province. The network is a shared partnership between Ontario Library Service and public libraries of Ontario, allowing patrons access to materials regardless of their location. The SDG Library actively participates in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service and provides over 200 items every month to requesting library systems. In turn, our SDG library patrons borrow items that are not currently available in our collections from other library systems across Ontario. This service is well utilised and valued by all patrons across many libraries.
What will happen to your current ILL account?
During the transition to the new software, the old system was closed and all current accounts are being recreated in the new software by SDG Library staff. Patrons are not required to create their own ILL account at this time. Our goal is to re-implement patron-initiated ILL requests once the integration is complete.
What changes will be happening?
SDG Library staff have introduced a new Interlibrary Loan request form on the webpage to help streamline the process of creating new ILL accounts and ordering materials. This form will need to be completed for each ILL request*
In addition, this change will bring some exciting changes to your ILL borrowing experience!
- Patrons may now request material that has been published for one (1) year or more; which has changed from the previous two (2) year requirement.
- Renewals can be requested through your local Library branch.
- Book Clubs can now submit two (2) book club kit requests per year.
Please note that lending libraries may deny the request if their material is needed by their own patrons.
Please visit our webpage for more information regarding the ILL service and the transition to the "Resource Sharing for Groups" software. Thank you for your understanding and patience while we work through this new change.
*The ILL request form is currently disabled due to the postal strike. The ILL service will resume once postal services return to normal, be sure to check our website for updates.
