May is May-ker month! An entire month to celebrate what it means to be a maker.
What is a maker, you ask? A maker is someone who loves to create. This can be with your hands or with the help of machines.
Makers are naturally curious, always eager to learn more, and they often enjoy mixing different processes or materials to bring their ideas to life. For makers, every problem is another chance to innovate and think outside the box.
If you find joy in creative thinking, problem-solving, and most importantly, expanding your knowledge, then you have the traits of a maker!
Explore, learn, and have fun with numerous maker activities this month across the system, from macrame in Winchester and Lancaster, painting in Ingleside and bath bombs in South Mountain. We haven’t forgotten our youngest makers either. Join us for Tuesday Adventures in Williamsburg and Little Adventurers Playtime in Avonmore, as well as the Paper Projects crew at the MakerLab. There are also a large number of textile artists who meet regularly across the system throughout the year.
We are particularly excited to introduce to our patrons some of our fabulous new equipment in the Finch MakerLab. To celebrate, the Finch MakerLab is hosting free programs each Wednesday of the month beginning May 8. During May-ker Month, explore and become familiarized with the newly installed equipment by putting your own touch on a mug on May 8, a tote bag on May 15, a sublimation bookmark on May 22, and a notebook on May 29 any time between 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Staff will be present to demonstrate the process and answer any questions about the MakerLab. Please register online at SDG Library’s website to reserve a spot.
Join us across the SDG Library system this month for some hands on creativity. You are bound to find something to spark your interest and imagination.
