The Orchard is Calling, and I must Go!

There is something about September, the nights get cooler, and the sun just seem to glow on the changing colours of the leaves, and the smells of Autumn are in the air.

I love this time of year! Every day on my way to work at Williamsburg library I pass by the apple orchard where the first MacIntosh apple was discovered, and I see that September has brought the increased activity of tractors bringing full crates of freshly picked apples to the barn, to be sold at the farm stand or bagged and delivered to our local grocery stores.

I love visiting the Orchard in the fall, and we are fortunate to live close to another local orchard that invites visitors to take a wagon ride through the orchard and pick bags of apples for eating, baking and cooking. The sweet, crisp, juicy bite of a freshly picked apple tastes so much better when you have picked it straight from the tree! There is also something so wonderful and Autumn-like about the smell of an apple pie or apple crisp baking in the oven at this time of year. Move aside pumpkin-spice lovers, the apple is the true Autumm scent!
