There is something about this time of year; the cooler nights, the glowing sun on the changing leaves, and the smells of Fall are in the air. I love this time of year!
Every day, on my way to work at Williamsburg Library I pass by the apple orchard where the first McIntosh apple was discovered, and I see that Fall has brought the increased activity of tractors bringing full crates of freshly picked apples to the barn, to be sold at the farm stand or bagged and delivered to our local grocery stores.
I love visiting the orchard in the Fall, and we are fortunate to live close to another local orchard that invites visitors to take a wagon ride through the orchard and pick bags of apples for eating, baking, and cooking. The sweet, crisp, juicy bite of a freshly picked apple tastes so much better when you have picked it straight from the tree! There is also something so wonderful about the smell of an apple pie or apple crisp baking in the oven at this time of year. Move aside pumpkin-spice lovers, the apple is the true Fall scent!
