As the end of 2023 approaches, we naturally find ourselves reflecting on how we spent the year. For avid readers like those in SDG, we might consider how many books we’ve read this year and which ones stood out the most. If you’re wondering how your reads of 2023 stacked up against other titles, or if they resonated with other readers look no further than the Goodreads Choice Awards!
Dubbed the only major literary awards determined by popular vote, the Goodreads Choice Awards highlight the best of the best published in 2023. This year, there were fifteen genres in which titles could take home a prize. The categories included fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, and memoir, as well as the hybrid genre, “romantasy”. Notable winners of this year’s awards include Emilia Hart, whose Weyward took the prize in both historical fiction and debut novel categories. Also notable is Stephen King’s win with Holly which marks King’s fifth win for a horror novel, and his tenth win overall.
For readers looking to end their 2023 reads on a high note, the Goodreads Choice Awards is sure to have titles worth checking out (wink wink). How many of the winning books have you read? Any titles you believe were left out of the race? You can see the full list of nominees and finalists on the Goodreads website or app. Be sure to pick up any titles you may have missed, or maybe even some you’d like to revisit before the year is up at your local library!
