What is a MakerKit?
By Iris C., LSA - Alexandria Branch
Nowadays, libraries have so much more to offer than books. If you’re a frequent user of your local library, you probably already know this! One of the resources our staff have available to them are MakerKits. These kits are designed for library staff to use in branches or when out and about at a pop-up event! From robotics to button makers, our kits are a fun and interactive way to introduce our patrons to things they may not get to experience at home.
Our newest MakerKit is called Sphero Indi. Sphero is the company name and Indi is for car racing. Yes, this maker kit contains robotic cars! These little robots read colour tiles and perform different tasks accordingly.
Have we piqued your interest? Well, you’re in luck! The Alexandria branch is hosting a program to learn all about Sphero Indi during March Break. On Tuesday, March 12 at 10:30am, Iris will be demonstrating the Indi and letting you loose to discover these neat little machines. They will also be available during branch open hours for the rest of March break to come in and tinker with.
