The SDG Library is getting ready to launch its first Little Free Library!

Little Free Libraries are small book houses that provide an alternative access point for reading materials. They complement the services provided by branches and work on the 'take a book, leave a book' philosophy.

The Library recently undertook a public voting campaign to collect input on choosing the location for the first book house. In total, 1,282 votes were received. When all the votes were tallied, South Stormont's Newington Fire Hall had received 50% of the votes.

“Other public libraries have undertaken similar projects with very positive results” said Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian. “We are excited to bring this idea to our communities.”

The first Little Free Library is just about ready to go, thanks to the work of the students at Tagwi Secondary School who put the book house together. Over the next few weeks, Library staff will be coordinating the installation of the first book house and recruiting volunteers to help maintain it.

SDG Library is looking forward to officially opening the Little Free Library in July, and if all goes well, other locations could be added in the near future.
