SD&G County Library Public Meeting – Williamstown Branch
May 29, 2017

The SD&G County Library is hosting a public meeting this coming Thursday, June 1st at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Centre, 19641 County Road 19, Williamstown. This meeting has been arranged for staff and Library Board members to share information with the public about potential future locations of the Williamstown Branch library facility, as well as to collect feedback from residents.

At the beginning of May, the Williamstown Branch was temporarily relocated to the St. Mary’s Centre, while renovations were scheduled for the Sir John Johnson Manor House National Historic Site, the long-standing location of this library branch.

The relocation of Williamstown Branch has provided an opportunity to look at the current and future facility options. Considerations for the future will include aspects such as accessibility, parking, size of the branch and location within the community.

The June 1st meeting will provide the opportunity for staff to share their research into potential locations, as well as have discussions with residents about their library needs. “We are looking forward to meeting with the residents of Williamstown and South Glengarry to discuss branch locations and services,” said Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services. “We have an opportunity to make the Williamstown Branch all that it can be for the future.”

If all goes according to plan, renovations to the Sir John Johnson Manor House are scheduled to be completed by the end of September. Over the next couple of months, Library staff will continue to collect feedback and evaluate options, to help the Library Board finalize their decision about the branch’s future location, prior to the completion of renovations.

In addition to the public meeting, Library staff are also collecting feedback through a written questionnaire. Questionnaires are available at the Williamstown Branch or online at For more information on the public meeting or the questionnaire, please contact Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian at (613) 936-8777 ext. 226 or
