Well, another December is upon us. And sure, this is the best time to watch Love Actually for the 100th time, or read yet another adaptation of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and A Christmas Carol (better yet if you find one that combines the two!). But maybe you’re looking for another option – something a little less holiday-themed, but still as entertaining. Here are some suggestions for escaping this holiday season.
Before the book Wild was made into a Hollywood film, Franz Wisner embarked on his own trip of self-discovery. Left at the alter by his fiancée and with a honeymoon already saved for and booked, the author decided to make a change in his life. He quit his job, sold his house, and travelled the world with his brother. Wisner captured their exploits in his memoir Honeymoon with my Brother, and provides the reader with a candid and humourous account of what it’s like to start over.
Or perhaps you’re like me, and are a bit behind on your laugh-out-loud biography list. Hollywood talents like B. J. Novak, Mindy Kaling and Amy Poehler have been successful in writing books that keep with their comedic style and relate to the reader. Whether you’re reading them for the first or second time, these collections will help to keep a smile on your face throughout the month.
The SD&G County Library has lots of resources available that will make you chuckle this December. So, if you find you’re in need of a break from the rushing around and family gatherings, stop by the Library. Whether it's online or in person, we'll help you pick out something entertaining to help brighten your holidays.
