Food for Fines
June 3, 2019
Calling all Library patrons that have accrued fines over the Winter and Spring! The SDG Library is in the midst of their Spring 2019 ‘Food for Fines’ campaign.
From May 25 until June 8, patrons are invited to drop off non-perishable items to SDG Library branches to pay off any Library fines they may have. For every item donated, $2 in fines will be waived from their account. All items are donated to local food banks, ensuring the donations stay in our communities.
“We run the ‘Food for Fines’ campaign twice a year” said Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian. “It provides twice the opportunity to pay off Library fines, while also giving back to our communities.”
Patrons without fines are also encouraged to donate items. Not only will these donations go to help individuals in need within the community, patrons can “pay it forward” and apply their donation to help pay down someone else’s fines.
In 2018, the Spring ‘Food for Fines’ campaign brought in more than 500 items in donations and paid off over $400 in fines.
If you have outstanding fines on your Library account or wish to “pay it forward” with a donation to the ‘Food for Fines’ campaign, visit your local SDG Library branch. Information on the program can be found at www.sdglibrary.ca/food-fines or by contacting Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian, at (613) 936 -8777 ext. 226 or swallwork@sdglibrary.ca.
