Updated Mission Statement for SD&G County Library
September 18, 2017

Connect. Create. Explore.

Those three words are the updated mission statement for the SD&G County Library and will help to guide the organization over the coming years.

Over the summer months, Library staff asked the public to vote on statements that would better reflect the Library’s purpose. A shortlist of six statements was provided, along with the option to provide your own, and the results from this poll were provided to the Library Board at their September 7th meeting.

Almost 500 responses were gathered from the public, and it was a close contest between four of the six statements. After a discussion by the Board, it was decided that this statement best reflected the purpose and objectives of the Library today, as well as moving forward.

“This updated mission statement hits the key objectives of the Library, is more modern, and more memorable.” stated Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services. “It also provides possibilities for growth in the future, leaving room for patrons and staff to decide exactly how the Library fosters connections, creativity and exploration.”

Library publications and promotions will start to incorporate the updated mission statement as they are produced. As well, the task of updating the mission statement has led the Library Board to make plans to update the Library’s Strategic Plan in 2018.
