The featured activity is also on the landing page with details of an exciting craft to make. The featured craft changes frequently, so many exciting crafts are displayed. You can also create and share a collection of your projects, activities, and crafts with other users of the World Book Activity Corner database.

Ancestry Library Edition brings the world's most popular online genealogy resource to our library. It offers billions of records in census data, vital records, directories, and photos, and is easily accessible by both hobbyists and professionals. Please note that access is only available within an SDG Library branch.

Through the ARCHIVESCANADA.ca national database, hundreds of individual archival institutions across the country (each with holdings such as documentary records, maps, photographs, sound recordings, videos and more) regularly produce descriptions of these holdings, and make those descriptions accessible to the ARCHIVESCANADA.ca portal via their provincial/territorial network.

The County Atlas Digital Project is a searchable database of the property owners' names which appear on the township maps in the county atlases. Township maps, portraits and properties have been scanned, with links from the property owners' names in the database.

The Canadian Encyclopedia plays an essential role in providing Canadians and others with accurate, updated information about our people and country.

Containing resources that present multiple sides of a current issue — including information on key topics of interest to Canadian researchers — this database helps students develop persuasive arguments and essays, better understand controversial issues and develop analytical thinking skills.

Canadian Points of View Reference Centre covers hundreds of topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument) and counterpoint (opposing argument).

Each topic features a Guide to Critical Analysis which helps the reader evaluate the controversy and enhances students’ ability to read critically, develop their own perspective on the issues and write or debate an effective argument on the topic.

Cantook Station is a database that allows library members to borrow e-books and e- audiobooks. You can even read e-books offline! Most of the content in Cantook Station is in French. The collection includes books translated to French as well as French-language original works.

Little Pim is the leading language teaching method designed just for children. The short 5-minute videos hold their focus so they can begin their language learning journey.

Together with Little Pim, your child can learn 360 words and phrases from one out of 12 languages, providing the essential building blocks for language learning. Little Pim is available through Mango Languages and is accessible on a web browser or by downloading the Little Pim app.

Start the conversation with Mango Languages.  Choose courses in over 70 different languages with this online language learning system. You can learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Polish, German, Mandarin or Cantonese Chinese, Greek, Italian, Ukrainian, and more.

You can learn English from 20 native languages.  Specialty courses are available.  You can create an account and track your progress, or use it with guest access. Mango uses real life situations and conversations to teach new language, so you will gain practical knowledge of the vocabulary.  Basic and in-depth courses are available.

Getting Started

Go to the Mango Languages login page. If you are offsite, you will "Sign Up" and enter your email address, library barcode and create a password.  Mango Languages will ask you to consent to their data collection policy.  Browse or search for the language you wish to learn.

Download the App

Before downloanding the app you will need to login to Mango through your web browser first and create an account.  Download the app for iOS  or Android. Select "Already have a profile" and login at the bottom of the screen.  Enter your email and password that you created while using the web browser.

MasterFILE Elite is a research database that provides full-text articles and reports from magazines, periodicals, and reference books covering a wide range of subjects. Articles can be printed and downloaded for later use, and citation information is listed if needed.

Once logged in, use the search bar to find topics of interest. You can then finetune your search settings to only show full-text articles and to limit those results to recent publications. In the example below, we searched for information on Antarctica, then limited the results to only full-text articles from 2015 to 2017.

cloudLibrary NewsStand is a digital magazine and newspaper service that contains over 7,500 titles in more than 60 languages. 

Novelist K-8 Plus works much like Novelist plus, except that it focuses on younger readers and also provides recommendations based on reading level.

Novelist Plus provides book recommendations, reviews, and read-alike suggestions for fiction and nonfiction content targeting all ages, including works by Canadian authors. If you find a great title that we don't have, let us know with a Purchase Suggestion request and we'll do our best to get it!

The Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid is a pointer database consisting of the surnames, cemetery name and location of over 3 Million interments from several thousand cemeteries, cairns, memorials, and cenotaphs in Ontario Canada.

Ontario Locator is a directory of past and present place names in Ontario, Canada, created for genealogists to assist with locating the township, county or district needed to research family histories in Ontario.

The Archives of Ontario receives Vital Statistics records from the Office of the Registrar General of Ontario on an annual basis. These records contain indexes (where they exist) and registrations capturing information about births, marriages and deaths in Ontario.

Read your favourite newspapers online anywhere with PressReader! Full-issue, full-colour newspapers are made available online on publication day, and most titles include back issues. Over 7000 newspapers & magazines in more than 60 languages can be viewed on computers, tablets, and smartphones. 

Accessing from home will require an active library membership card, while anyone can use the service at our 15 library branches. PressReader works great in most web browsers, though mobile device users have the option to download and use the PressReader app from either Apple's App Store or from Android's Google Play Store.

Note that some titles may only be available while accessing PressReader directly from a library branch (ex: The Globe & Mail), but most publications are available from home or on the go.

The SD&G and City of Cornwall Online Archives project is a digitized collection of local newspapers and photos dating back to the 19th Century. The archive features thousands of searchable photos and hundreds of thousands of newspaper pages from an array of publications in SDG Counties and the City of Cornwall.

SDG is an upper-tier government that includes six local municipalities. Our 12-member Counties Council includes two representatives (mayor and deputy-mayor) from South Stormont, North Stormont, South Glengarry, North Glengarry, South Dundas and North Dundas.

The Census Program provides a statistical portrait of our country every 5 years and shares the findings online. Access statistical data, summaries by topic, maps, and a variety of other reference materials.

Tailored for students in elementary and middle schools, Student includes all the articles from the print versions of the World Book Encyclopedia, plus thousands of additional articles, learning resources, and research tools.

World Book Kids is an online resource developed especially for young students. World Book Kids features a variety of simple search and browse navigation options, thousands of easy-to-read articles with embedded multimedia, challenging games, an Important People feature to help students browse through thousands of biographies, a collection of age-appropriate science projects and activities, an atlas with interactive maps, and educator tools.
